Kids Matter! 2010-2011

Introduction

2010-2011 marks the second consecutive year that our Community Profile report has carried the name, Kids Matter!  These annual Profile reports attempt to capture the key indicators that help the Chatham-Savannah Youth Futures Authority (YFA) determine the present state and well-being of the children and youth residing in Chatham County-Savannah, Georgia.  By keeping abreast of the latest data related to these core indicators, YFA and its partners are able to use this data to strategize on ways to more effectively address the magnitude and impact these conditions have in our community.

In this year’s report, the key indicators remain unchanged since they are considered appropriate measures of child and youth well-being in our community at this time.  An additional indicator was added in the Children Ready For and Succeeding in School section, which will be explained in more detail in the overview section.

Without the continued support and assistance provided by the agencies and institutions responsible for the data contained in this report, these publications would not be possible.  These agencies and institutions have the sincere gratitude and respect of the YFA, and we acknowledge that without their support these Profile reports would not contain the information or serve the value they have for eighteen years now.  We extend a resounding Thank You to these valuable partners.  A complete list of these partners can be found at the end of this report on the Data & Acknowledgements page.
YFA serves as the collaborative for Chatham County on the Georgia Family Connection Partnership (GaFCP), which took the collaborative model and replicated it throughout the state to impact the conditions of children, youth, and families across all of Georgia’s 159 counties.  The GaFCP celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2011, and we recognize and applaud the significant role it continues to play statewide in helping collaboratives, like the YFA, identify and address issues, and effect positive change in the lives of our youth and families.
