There has been a consistent decline over the past three academic school years in the total number of public school students (grades 7-12) who completely drop out of school. Data suggests that more students tend to drop out in high school. Of the 295 students who dropped out during the 2008-2009 academic school year, 84% (248 students) were in grades 9-12. Black male students represented 45.4% of the total drop outs in 2008-2009.
